GENETICS IS NOT YOUR FATE – IT IS INFORMATION YOU CAN USE TO TAKE
MEANINGFUL ACTION THAT WILL CHANGE YOUR HEALTH OUTCOMES
Epigenetics is the understanding of which genes are turned on and which ones are turned off and factors that turn them on and off. We use this targeted information to help you protect and enhance your health now and in the future. We aim to prolong your health-span – the number of healthy years you have remaining in your life, not just how long your live.
IntellxxDNA offers two profiles:
- General Wellness and Prevention Genomics
- Alzheimer’s Genomics
We have done both profiles ourselves and found them to provide useful insights that could potentially allow us to make health, wellness, and nutrition choices precisely targeted to personal genomic information – rather than general recommendations good for the whole population. We recommend doing both these profiles together.
GENERAL GENOMICS PANEL INCLUDES:
- Optimal diet for weight loss and fat loss
- Vitamin D metabolism and Vitamin D receptors
- Anesthesia risk genes and safest choices
- Blood clot risk related genes
- Vitamin B12 metabolism and absorption
- Diabetes risk genes
- Thyroid hormone metabolism and activation
- Statin intolerance genes
- Homocysteine metabolism
- Understanding which blood pressure drugs may be the best and safest
- Melanoma risk genes
COGNITION GENOMICS PANEL INCLUDES OVER 200 points tested:
- Apo E2/E3/E4 genes- the highest impact Alzheimer’s genes
- Genes that activate or accompany APO E4
- Gene markers that decrease risk
- Mitochondrial cellular energy pathway genetics
- Estrogen and testosterone receptor genes
- Vascular dementia risk genes
- Inflammation pathways
- Copper/Zinc/Magnesium pathway genes
- Glutathione cellular antioxidant pathway genes
- Non-ApoE4 genes associated with cognitive decline risk
- Viral Infection Risk and Inflammation genes
What we like about this particular genomics company is that they test for genes that are predictive AND they show you what can be done to modify those risks. By understanding where a pathway is blocked it is possible to use supplements, nutrition and specific types of exercise to work around these areas of risk using alternate routes to avoid or minimize risk.
High level of precision. Many companies such as 23&Me use only SNP – specific gene testing technology. Intellxx offers a second level of verification and enhancement of accuracy using PCR testing to get a more highly accurate answer about key genes. We recommend using IntellxxDNA with their combined SNP and PCR technology to achieve this level of verification for the key genes that need this refinement to give the most accurate results. Our practice orders the SNP and PCR testing together for this reason.
IntellxxDNA will offer further panels in the future and having the SNP plus PCR data together Intellxx plans to allow testing for the majority of new developments at just the cost of the further analysis of information without additional cost of testing the genes.
Test results – take about 4-8 weeks
Insurance – does not generally cover this type of testing
Privacy – various options to keep your data fully private are available
Mental Health and Wellness Panel
ADD / ADHD – Adult and Pediatric Attention Deficit Disorder
- As much as 80% of ADD / ADHD may be due to genetic factors
- The ADD/ADHD component of this panel can identify genes that contribute to this condition
- For those adults who have always wondered if they have ADD/ADHD this can be a starting place along with clinical testing to determine the likelihood of ADD/ADH
- Panel helps to identify which types of medication that you may best respond to and those less likely to be of value
- Panel can assist in identifying metabolism pathways that can be treated with nutritional support and dietary supplements as add-on to drug therapy or for those who would prefer not to use prescription drugs
Autism Spectrum Disorder Traits – Autism and Asperger’s
- Autism and Asperger’s have different gene patterns
- Focused study of populations with these conditions has yielded specific gene targets for intervention either early in childhood or later in adulthood to improve symptoms and outcomes
- Nutritional strategies have been used successfully to mitigate some of the symptoms and problematic patterns in these conditions; genomic testing may help to identify specific pathways that can be targeted
Mood and Anxiety Issues
- Specific genomic patterns increase the risk for mood disorders such as depression. Some genes relate to both anxiety and depression while others are specific to one condition or the other
- IntellxxDNA is adding specific genes that increase the risk of mood and anxiety problems and help to identify support strategies that may offset or improve these conditions
